Q: What led you to a career in banking?
A: Honestly, a great opportunity and a bit of luck led to my role at Great Oaks Bank. I have worked in marketing roles for years in various industries but feel I have found my calling at the bank. At the start of the pandemic, I lost my position at a regional hospitality group, which led me to this wonderful opportunity to help Great Oaks Bank grow and define its marketing and culture.
Q: What was the most useful piece of advice you received in the early/formative years of your career?
A: My former boss, John Matthews, led as a servant leader. I learned so much about being a true, honest, and caring leader by watching him lead the firm. One piece of advice he gave me, which I will always remember, is to give five minutes of your time to anyone who asks for it. You never know how you could help or connect with them, or how they could help you in the future.
Q: Tell us about one experience you’ve had that exemplifies being a banker or your role at the bank.
A: After finalizing all the PPP loans, I was tasked with telling our customers' stories and how the process impacted their livelihoods. Our video team and I interviewed multiple small businesses across the state, and the stories they shared about how these funds saved their businesses were heartwarming. Hearing firsthand how we, as community bankers, were able to help keep these companies afloat was so impactful.
Q: What would someone be surprised to learn about you?
A: I have been a vegetarian in various forms for over 30 years. Currently, I am a pescatarian and eat some seafood, but I have been vegan and a strict vegetarian in the past. I grew up in Indiana, and my grandfather had a farm where he raised pigs. When I was old enough to put it all together, I quit eating meat immediately.
Q: TV show or series you love?
A: I am (finally) watching the third season of Ted Lasso. I have been dragging my feet a bit because I don't want it to end!
Q: Most used app?
A: My most frequently used app is definitely my Fitbit app. I constantly compete with myself on steps, workouts, and sleep.
Q: How do you start your day?
A: For the past few years, my son Patrick (9) and I have started the day by walking our dog around our neighborhood. It's a great 20-minute walk with no agenda and gives us time to talk about anything and everything. I cherish the time we have together before the rushed day begins.
