How did you get into banking as a career?
Pierce Howard, former president of Citizens Bank in Gainesville, had a tremendous influence on my life. Pierce was a great mentor and father figure to me.
What was your first job and was there a lesson you learned there that you still use today?
My first job consisted of cleaning a branch bank while I was in high school. I was then offered a full-time position as a collector. Collection work taught me how to take action, speak professionally and negotiate with others. I learned that most people have a good heart and desire to do the right thing.
What's your favorite part of any given day at the bank?
My favorite part of banking is the people. I enjoy working with our customers and employees.
How does involvement in GBA help you and your bank?
GBA is a wonderful tool for networking. Bankers in Georgia are a tremendous group of people, and I am very fortunate to call them my friends. GBA keeps its banks on the cutting edge of banking with informative seminars, webinars, and conferences.
When you are not at work, what do you like to do most?
My hobbies include fishing, gardening and hiking with my wife.
