What’s your favorite part of working in the banking industry?
My favorite part of my job is the people. I have gained tremendous satisfaction from helping our customers and our employees.
Why do you think banking or any of the variety of professional disciplines (security, IT, compliance or HR for example) needed by banks are good career choices for women?
There is a great deal of opportunity for women within this industry to use their educational and real life experiences. Women can get started right out of high school in entry level positions and with the amount of on the job training can quickly advance to managerial positions. Also, women can use their college education and work life experiences to start in managerial positions such as CFOs, lenders, etc. When I first began my career in banking, it was common for women to serve in clerical roles. As the industry has advanced, we now see more and more women in executive management roles – and it has been an honor to be a part of this kind of evolution.
What’s a good piece of career advice someone has given you that you still use today?
Have passion in your belly and love what you do!
How does involvement in GBA help you and your bank?
My involvement with the GBA has been a wonderful experience. I have taken advantage of the training programs, especially the Operations and Technology School. The Bank has used GBA’s training for everything from webinars to Banking Schools. This training has been invaluable to us as a community bank. The GBA has also allowed me to network with some amazing people in our industry.
When you are not at work, what do you like to do most?
Spending time with family! I have a 7-year- old grandson who is the love of my life. He keeps me on my toes and is surprisingly more technologically savvy than I am. I also enjoy a good movie, a good book and will never pass up trying new restaurants. I have recently started Aerial Yoga as a part of my current Yoga and Tai Chi exercise program, this form of Yoga is challenging and fun.
